Richard D Lopez (He/Him) is a multidisciplinary artist and filmmaker. He received a BFA in Illustration from Parsons School of Design, where he explored narrative painting and stop-motion animation.
Drawing from his experience as a Latino queer artist navigating religious trauma, Richard builds emotionally charged worlds that thread the line between the autobiographical and the imaginary. Influenced by surrealist painters, and abstract filmmakers, Richard relies on abstracted diary entries, creative impulsivity, and the unease of America to translate his evolving stream of inner thoughts. Working through different mediums his style is imbued with bold colors, layers and intense visual juxtapositions.
Richard has been featured in group shows such as New Jersey Art fair 14C, and Parsons School of Design Alumni showcase. His stop-motion short film Invention in C Major screened at festivals including the Los Angeles Independent Short Awards, where it received an Honorable Mention..
